Service and engagement questions
What prospective clients commonly need to know.
Specific scope, pricing, response commitments, responsibilities, and exclusions are established in the applicable proposal or agreement.
What size organizations does VSS serve?
The core managed-service market is small and midsize organizations that need dependable technology responsibility without building a complete internal IT department. Project and consulting work may also support larger organizations when VSS has the appropriate scope, access, and subject-matter fit.
Does VSS provide both managed IT and one-time projects?
Yes. Ongoing managed services, defined projects, assessments, consulting, vCIO work, development, migrations, recovery work, and specialized integration can be scoped separately. Availability, response expectations, and included services depend on the written agreement.
What geographic area does VSS cover?
VSS primarily serves Cecil County, Maryland; Chester County, Pennsylvania; New Castle County, Delaware; and suitable remote engagements. On-site work outside the normal area may be accepted when the scope, schedule, and travel requirements are agreed in advance.
Can VSS work with our existing software vendors and service providers?
Yes. Vendor coordination is a normal part of managed services and project work. VSS can help define responsibilities, collect technical information, coordinate changes, troubleshoot cross-vendor issues, and keep the client informed. A third-party vendor remains responsible for its own products and contractual commitments.
Does cybersecurity service guarantee that an incident will not occur?
No. Security work reduces risk through appropriate safeguards, monitoring, maintenance, access control, backup, recovery planning, user processes, and incident readiness. No provider, product, or control can guarantee that an incident, outage, data loss, or unauthorized access will never occur.
How does VSS approach backup and disaster recovery?
The starting point is identifying critical systems and data, acceptable downtime, recovery priorities, responsible parties, backup destinations, retention, and testing requirements. A backup is not treated as complete protection until the recovery path and operational expectations are understood.
Can VSS build websites, portals, databases, and custom integrations?
Yes. VSS has experience with websites, hosted applications, databases, portals, workflow automation, Microsoft technologies, PHP, ASP.NET, communications systems, remote monitoring, telemetry, and hardware/software interfacing. The platform is selected according to the current requirement and support model rather than legacy technology alone.
Are law-firm litigation-support services available to the general public?
No. Subpoena and authorized document service, trial preparation, and trial presentation are offered only for established law-firm clients and at the direction of retaining counsel. VSS is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or determine legal sufficiency.
Should confidential information be submitted through the website?
No. Do not send passwords, protected health information, privileged material, evidence files, service documents, or other sensitive information through a general website form or ordinary email. After an inquiry is reviewed, VSS can identify an approved transfer method appropriate to the engagement.
How does VSS handle hardware and software purchasing?
VSS can help define requirements, compare options, verify compatibility, review warranties and licensing, coordinate ordering, document ownership, deploy approved systems, and plan replacement. The client approves all purchases and remains the owner of its contracts and assets unless a written agreement states otherwise.
Can VSS support onsite emergencies?
Onsite and emergency response may be available according to the client agreement, location, supported environment, urgency, staffing, and current commitments. Response time is not implied by the website and must be defined in the applicable managed-service agreement or service authorization.
Does VSS provide compliance certification?
No. VSS can implement and document technical safeguards, support risk remediation, coordinate evidence, and work with legal or compliance advisors. VSS does not certify an organization as compliant and does not replace the client’s legal, regulatory, privacy, or industry-specific advisors.
Can VSS modernize an older application or website?
Yes. Modernization may include discovery, source and database review, platform selection, migration planning, interface replacement, security correction, testing, documentation, and staged deployment. The appropriate path depends on source availability, licensing, data quality, business dependence, and long-term support requirements.
How does a new engagement begin?
Begin with the business objective, current environment, affected users or workflow, operational impact, timing, known constraints, and desired result. VSS will determine whether the next step should be a discussion, assessment, site visit, defined project scope, or managed-service review.
