VSS Project
CBRA / WA3SFJ Website & Member Systems Modernization
A multi-phase VSS Business Solutions WordPress modernization project combining a public amateur-radio website, member experience, protected content, operational workflows, and external data integration.
From Club Website to Operational Platform
VSS Business Solutions is developing the Chesapeake Bay Radio Association (CBRA / WA3SFJ) website as more than a visual redesign. The project combines a modern public WordPress site with member-facing resources, protected documents, club workflows, technical information, and an architecture that can reduce the amount of manual work required from volunteer officers.
The public side is designed to recruit, educate, and explain what the club does. The member side adds practical value after login. The administrative and back-office layers are separated so operational tools can evolve without turning the public website into an unmaintainable collection of custom pages.
Public Website Modernization
Public Experience
- Responsive club branding and navigation
- Amateur-radio learning and licensing content
- Repeater, technology, and infrastructure information
- Activities, events, contact, and membership pathways
- Search-friendly structured public content
Member & Officer Experience
- Member dashboard and directory concepts
- Protected member/officer documents
- Forums, events, and member access
- Asset and infrastructure management foundations
- Operational workflows separated from the public presentation layer
A Layered WordPress Architecture
The site uses a layered architecture rather than placing every responsibility in one theme or plugin. The visual shell handles branding and responsive presentation. The public/member front-end layer owns club-facing content and navigation. A separate management layer owns the deeper administrative workflows and data integration.
For official membership and asset information, HamClubOnline is used as an upstream source of truth while WordPress provides the website experience, access layer, protected resources, and local workflows. WordPress user accounts are treated as login identities rather than as the authoritative club roster.
Preserving Technical Knowledge
Amateur-radio clubs often depend on long-lived infrastructure and volunteer knowledge. A modern club website can help preserve that institutional knowledge by documenting repeater systems, tower and antenna concepts, power systems, digital modes, emergency communications, operating practices, and maintenance context in a structure that future volunteers can understand.
The same concept extends to protected operational records: documents, member access, assets, site information, maintenance context, and officer workflows can be organized without publishing sensitive information to the general public.
Designed for Iterative Improvement
The public WA3SFJ website is live, while the deeper member and back-office capabilities are being refined in controlled phases. That modular approach allows the club to improve one workflow at a time, validate it with members and officers, and preserve working functionality rather than relying on a disruptive all-at-once replacement.
For VSS, the project demonstrates WordPress architecture, responsive front-end development, custom plugin work, data integration, protected content, membership workflows, documentation design, and the long-term support considerations that matter when a website becomes part of an organization’s operations.
